COMMISSIONS

I accept a limited number of portrait commissions each year.

The work is concerned less with formal description and more with atmosphere, presence, and the inner life of the sitter. These are paintings that develop slowly and are intended to be lived with over time, rather than read at a glance.

Suitability

This work may be appropriate if you are drawn to:

- mood and ambiguity rather than overt statement

- a sense of quiet psychological presence

- paintings that suggest more than they define

It may be less suitable if you are seeking:

- highly polished or photographic realism

- rapid completion

- a strictly illustrative likeness

I think it is important to be clear about this at the outset.

The Process

Each portrait is developed over an extended period, allowing the painting to find its own internal logic.

Sittings are unforced and conversational. Photography may be used as a reference, but the painting is primarily co.pleted from life. Decisions are guided by tone, light, and the emotional relationship between sitter and space, rather than surface detail.

Throughout the process, emphasis is placed on allowing the work to remain open, rather than fully resolved.

Format and Pricing

Portraits are typically head-and-shoulders or half-length, though other formats can be discussed.

As a guide:

Head-and-shoulders portraits begin at £6,000

Half-length portraits from £9,000

Larger, full-length, or multi-figure works are priced individually.

A deposit is required to secure a place, with the balance due upon completion. Pricing reflects time, scale, and complexity.

Availability

I accept a small number of commissions each year in order to work slowly and attentively.
