Jason is available for private commissions. Prices vary according to size and medium. To discuss a project fully please email: firstname.lastname@example.org or complete the form below.
Portrait commissions are preferably painted from life in Jason’s private studio in Lewes, East Sussex. The historic approach used requires a certain amount of space and light and so it is beneficial to both the sitter and the artist for the commission to take place in the studio.
For posthumous portraits, it is possible to work from selected appropriate photographs.
Portraits are typically painted life size, or a little under. A traditional ‘head and shoulders’ portrait measuries 50cm width x 60cm height, a historical 'three quarter length' portrait 53cm width x 76cm height and a historical 'kit kat' (head and one hand) portrait (71 width x 91cm height). Although other proportions are possible and can be discussed.
Drawing commissions start from £600.
Painting commissions start from £2000.
Commissions are not limited to portraiture. Jason also paints still lives, landscapes, religious, imaginative and group figure paintings. If you have a particular project in mind please get in touch to discuss your ideas fully.
TERms of engagement
Having agreed the details of the project a contract will be issued setting out responsibilities and terms including the payment schedule. This is summarised below:
A non-refundable deposit*, for a third of the total payment, is paid upfront. This allows for materials and set-up costs.
A second payment, of a third of the total payment, is taken midway through the commission on request. The commissioner is asked to confirm they are happy with the pose, and the general direction the painting is taking. The painting is then brought to a conclusion. This allows for you to request significant changes or to cancel the project at this stage etc.
The final payment, of the remaining third, is taken upon completion and delivery of the painting.
Framing is not included and is left to client discretion and choice although we are happy to advise and recommend framers we work closely with.
*unless the artist is unable to start the commission.
